Logistics Support Wing

The main role of the Logistics Support Wing is to support both emerging and enduring Media Operations and Exercises though it also provides routine support to all of DMOC.  The Support Wing supplies individuals, or the Joint Media Operations Team (JMOT), with specialist IT and communication systems, vehicles, technical training and life support equipment for deployment anywhere in the world.

In addition to this role the Support Wing also assists the Ministry of Defence with the setting up of Press Information Centres at many public events such as D-Day 60 in France, Trafalgar 200 in Portsmouth, VE/VJ Day in London, and the Somme 90 Commemorations in France.

Tasks could be as simple as escorting press, driving Ministers or medal recipients, booking flights or producing brochures through to establishing ‘live’ satellite links, setting up press briefings/satellite comms, equipping and running a full press conference, or ensuring that the next generation of vehicles and equipment meet laid down requirements.

The Support Wing, like the rest of DMOC, is staffed by representatives from all three Services of the Armed Forces and commanded by the Quartermaster, a Regular Officer. The team prides itself on its adaptability and ability to get things done.

The unit in its current guise was officially ‘stood-up’ on 1 April 2004. However, roots were firmly established by the Joint Media Operations Group (JMOG) Logistics Cell, formed primarily to support OPERATION TELIC in October 2002.
