The
Defence Media Operations Training School plans and coordinates the
delivery of media training to the whole Defence Community. The school
is staffed by military media officers, recently returned from
operations overseas, as well as professional civilian media trainers. Course Dates.
Specialist Training
Media Operations staff are important personnel in military
headquarters, fulfilling a vital role in the completion of any mission.
In order to prepare personnel to take on this role, DMOC Training
School runs the Foundation Media Course, the Advanced Media Course, the Combat Camera Team Course and the Combat Camera Team Leaders' Course,
fully preparing the students for operational commitments. All these
specialist courses can last up to a week, covering interview
techniques, media monitoring and fast-paced crisis-handling exercises.
These courses are run in close consultation with all three Front Line
Commands as well as the Permanent Joint Headquarters in Northwood,
London.
Media Skills Training
We offer various levels of Media Skills Courses
for personnel who can expect to find themselves facing the media in the
course of their work; ranging from senior MOD staff to deploying
formation commanders, military award winners and military sporting
personalities. We can also carry out last minute bespoke MSC
training for any personnel who may be exposed to heightened media
scrutiny. Our Pre-Interview Training Teams may, also provide advanced,
highly targeted and researched training aimed at preparing speakers for
specific interviews.
Career Training
The school has excellent working relationships with the Defence Academy
and the Royal College of Defence Studies, offering not only media
awareness and skills training but also a total media support package
for all major exercises and wargames. Further, the Training
School provides media awareness training throughout military careers,
through interjection in several career-training courses across all
three services.
Collective Training
The School is pursuing the support of delivery of collective media
training on large exercises, which is enhanced by contracted Simulated
Press who create an effective media environment to exercise formation
commanders. High level media advisors are posted into Force HQs
and give guidance to commanders on how they can best implement their
media plans to help achieve their desired effects. We have also
embedded ‘real media’ into pre-deployment exercises: providing training
value for troops and journalists before they arrive in operational
theatres.
International Training
Overseas training, involving our NATO and EU partners is also on the
agenda at the School and we have been involved in training in Iraq,
Afghanistan, Oman, Kenya, Lithuania, Serbia, Malta and Italy. The
School has recently trained the command group of a EU Battlegroup, as
well as senior NATO ISAF personnel. Training school staff routinely
deploy overseas to deliver media and communications training worldwide
to help us maintain a global reach.
The school is always involved in development work in order to maintain
its continuous evolution; courses are constantly under review and we
are always looking to ensure we are using the most up to date training
methods.
International personnel who wish to attend a DMOC course should contact the International Defence Training department of the Ministry of Defence who can discuss their requirement.
